Purchasing The Correct Water Softener

April 18, 2010

Methods Of Water Softening

Do you have hard water or poor water quality?  The water hardness level for the White Bear Lake, MN and surrounding area is 13-14 grains.  Knowing the water hardness level or quality will help determine the setting on the water softener.  The two main methods for softening water and eliminating hardness are the metered method and the scheduled method.

Metered vs. Scheduled Water Softeners

The difference between metered and scheduled water softeners is in the way they regenerate or discard the hardness from the storage tank.  A metered water softener only regenerates and uses salt based upon the amount of water actually used.  BrassCraft makes a great metered water softener which is manufactured in Minnesota.  A scheduled water softener will regenerate and use salt based upon a timer.  Therefore, the water softener will regenerate and use salt regardless if water has been used.

At Roger Vadnais Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning of White Bear Lake, MN we replace, service, and install water softeners.  We carry the Minnesota BrassCraft water softener and will also install other makes or models.  To schedule an appointment contact Roger Vadnais Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning at (651) 429-3303 or visit us online at www.rogervadnais.com
